BILS Centre for Applied Research in Law

Applied Research

B-CARL’s work is specifically directed towards applied side of research to address real life problems and that’s how the focus is not on purely scholastic doctrinaire research. We will look at the issues relating to the use and operation of the legislation and the resources of authority in the State all of which will have a direct application to a specific group in a specific circumstance.

For example, the first project which this Centre has undertaken, investigates the implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act (The Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment (Prevention, Protection and Redressal) Act, 2013). Here the focus is on women, specifically “working women” and why sexual harassment of women at workplace persists albeit the laws? Research is on basic implementation issues, employers’ attitudes despite the mandate by law to provide certain workplace safety measures and so on.
